Demo-team - Newhaven
Saturday's match against the newcomers from Newhaven ended with an entertaining 3-2 victory for SportMember AC.
The match started as expected, with high energy and intensity from both sides. After 18 minutes of play, SportMember AC scored the first goal. It was Jennifer Lewis with her 7th goal of the season, who, with a beautiful assist from Mark Johnson, made it 1-0 after creating a free shot for herself with a cunning header past the goalkeeper.
Just minutes before halftime, Newhaven equalized. Lucas Smith delivered a ball into depth for the well-playing Emily Clarke, who could set up a flat cross for Jack Taylor to easily make it 1-1.
SportMember AC came out into the second half with renewed energy and pressed Newhaven back into their own field, and after 57 minutes, Nathan Barnes scored, thus bringing SportMember AC ahead again. The goal was scored on a penalty after Mark Johnson was clumsily brought down in the box.
After 71 minutes of play, Newhaven played their way beautifully through SportMember AC's defense. Rachel Anderson headed the ball beautifully after a perfect cross from Oliver Evans. It was Rachel Anderson herself who drove the ball forward and laid it off to Oliver Evans – then herself ran into the box and headed the ball – making it 3-2 to SportMember AC.
Ryan Williams scored the final goal of the match after 82 minutes, easily placing the inside of the boot on a perfect pass from Lisa Taylor, bringing the score to 3-2.
